Yes, I think he had been presented as rather blend and I had never paid much attention and thought he might be gone before very long.

But when I read the wiki article completely I was surprised and amazed. Read his background and accomplishments and proposals and then wonder at how he is presented.

This demanding attitude(toward himself as well as others) now made public has demolished, I guess, the notion of blandness so it is seen a a political plus.

I wish we had him over here; I would trade ANY two of 'ours'.

By absence of virtue, I thought it would be clear in the context, I was referring to his alleged bullying and browbeating of his staff.

In the context of the British public's general impressions of Brown, which seem to be less enthusiastic than yours, David R., it would appear that this story of his alleged bullying has, paradoxically (and if this story is to be believed), increased his popularity.

Look up Gordon Brown on wiki and you'll have a hard time finding absence of virtue. That man is a TRUE 'conservative' or rather a truly constructive 'liberal' or somewhere in between. By the article, a real admirable human being.
